No, your Mountain Real Estate Agent isn’t Being Disrespectful (Most Likely!)
Just because your mountain real estate agent shows up with mud on the back of his/her pant leg, Dansko clogs and a definite sunglasses “raccoon eyes” tan line, doesn’t mean that they aren’t serious about the business. Life in Colorado Ski Country is definitely NOT glamorous, but it sure is fun.
I have lived in the Winter Park area since 1983 and have been selling resort real estate since January of 1995 and have definitely made all of the silly, beginner mistakes in the last 17 years! I’ve worn my business attire to show property, only to have my buyers show up fresh off of a mountain bike ride, with mud dripping down their legs and the biggest grins on their faces. I’ve come in fresh from snowshoeing with my two (amazing, of course) dogs, sweaty and dragging but with that big grin (again) and had clients sitting in the lobby of my office having just come from their offices in the Front Range and looking very business-like and clean. Luckily, they’re more jealous than anything else, wishing they too could have gone out on their lunch hour to grab a quick 60 minutes of pure, unadulterated bliss on the back country trails.
And by the way, we definitely give out our business cards while we’re riding the lifts at the ski resorts. We can’t help it, we love living here and we love selling real estate here more than anything else. Other than that, we work just like other busy real estate professionals. We put in many hours learning the business, keeping on top of the legislation that might affect the industry or private property rights, we attend continuing education to always be learning how to be better, faster, more efficient in our chosen industry.
So the next time you meet up with your Mountain real estate professional, and you think their car could definitely use a good carwash, just look for that smile. That grin that says that just this morning, they drove way back up that dirt road out of town to do a little hiking before coming in to meet you and introduce you to this incredible way of living.
